Man, I love California poppies. Along with the cheery but intense colour, the petals’ rough-ish textures make me think of Japanese architectural woodwork. [Hmph. It’s been suggested that these are Iceland poppies. Maybe so.]
We have a big patch in the back yard; here are two views.
The closer you get, the better they look.
I was enjoying the dappled shade, but in another corner of the lawn some were in full sunlight.

Beautiful flowers, yes.
But... California Poppy? I'm not so sure! Or, at least, it is a radically different variety than anything within our neighborhood!
